Blue fin tuna fishing in North Carolina, March 2022

4 of us spent 3 days on the sea (50-60 miles offshore), had 17 fights and brought 7 fish by the boat. Unfortunately all of them are way over size limit (for recreational anglers, we are only allowed to keep those under 73 inches), so we took a picture and released them back immediately. We will definitely be back next year!

this is amazing, how did you not fall into the ocean in that photo? Wonder how many fisherman are here. @nclplants814

every reel has a drag, we set a certain amount power of the drag when we are fighting with the fish. If the fish fights hard then it will pull the line and run, the fish will get tired at some point (imagine you are towing a heavy weight and run).

Once the fish stops running, or even it swims towards you, it’s time to reel it back to you. For big fish, normally there will be 3-5 rounds of fight, or even more. it runs, get tired, I reel, then it runs again. The fight can take hours, or even longer! It took me around an hour to win this 400lb monster.

You know you win when you see the fish are floating on the surface, because it’s exhausted and cannot fight anymore. Then you can easily take it to the boat!

Wow what a monster! That’s a bucket list trip. Biggest fish I ever caught was a 250lbs Goliath grouper. Felt like reeling up a bathtub. Best fighting fish was a 110 tarpon. Took over 30 mins on light drag to bring it in!

Wow this is so dope!!! I really need to get a selfie with goliath grouper this fall!!!
